XBOX Music Better than iTunes?
With the emergence of services such as Spotify, Pandora and many, many more, being a fan of digital music has never been so much fun. A new player is entering the market though to compete against the likes of iTunes and Spotify and surprisingly, this competitor is Microsoft!
The service is called âXBOX Musicâ and as the title suggests, it is for the XBOX. It is easy to write this off as just another service that will be confined to the bottom of the pile (Much like the Zune) but rather surprisingly; this service does look like it has some promise to get the customers rolling in. XBOX music follows Spotify in the way that it will offer free music which is supported by adverts or you can purchase an âXBOX Music Passâ for $9.99 a month or $99 a year to ensure an advert-free service complete with a âcloud lockerâ function.
With a strong offering of over 30 million songs on launch (Which is more than iTunes!) I think we are seeing the making of the next big challenger here. With a subscription service, locker storage and its very own music store shows that Microsoft really does mean business this time.
This handy graphic provided by Microsoft themselves shows just how they compare with other streaming/music services which we have come to know and love.
The only problems lies within the support over a range of devices. Sure it will work with the XBOX and the Windows 8 phones, PCs and tablets but where does that leave those with Windows 8 or even OSX? With Spotifiy having software for both Windows and Mac, Microsoft will have to make up this area as soon as they can if they can stand a chance of making it work.
So what do you think? Is Microsoft releasing the next big thing or is it doomed to flop like the Zune? Let us know below or on Facebook.
